Read More →The Colorado State University Indoor Practice Facility is a 63,190-square-foot athletic training complex designed to support a wide range of varsity sports while providing year-round practice opportunities regardless of weather conditions. Through effective project management and cost control, owner savings generated during construction were reinvested into a variety of enhancements that elevated both the functionality and appearance of the facility.
At the center of the building is a 70-yard indoor turf field designed to accommodate multiple athletic programs. The field can be divided into two separate practice areas using a center divider net, allowing simultaneous use by different teams. Additional sport-specific amenities include a field goal kicking net, softball batting cages, a four-lane running track finished with an outdoor track surface, and a one-and-a-half-court basketball and volleyball practice area.
Project savings funded several upgrades throughout the facility, including a custom polished concrete lobby floor, enhanced office interiors, a sandblasted Ram logo at the entry, upgraded lighting and ceiling systems, and exterior architectural improvements featuring large stucco and stone veneer columns and enhanced landscaping.
To further improve the building’s appearance, Saunders incorporated perforated metal panel systems throughout the interior to conceal exposed structural steel while maintaining the facility’s open and functional design. The result is a flexible, multi-sport training environment that delivers exceptional value and supports the ongoing success of CSU athletics.
This project received LEED Gold Certification in 2009.
