AdventHealth Littleton Heart and Vascular Tower & CUP Expansion

Expanding advanced cardiovascular care capacity while preparing for the future of healthcare delivery.

Saunders completed the Heart and Vascular Tower, an 86,500-square-foot, five-level hospital expansion designed to enhance cardiovascular services and support future growth within the healthcare system.

The new tower brings a comprehensive range of heart and vascular services together in one location, providing patients access to advanced treatments including minimally invasive procedures, cardiac catheterization, open-heart surgery, and other specialized cardiovascular care. The facility includes new laboratory spaces, procedure rooms, operating rooms, waiting areas, a dedicated 24-bed cardiac intensive care unit, and associated clinical support spaces.

Designed with long-term flexibility in mind, the upper two floors were delivered as core-and-shell space, allowing the hospital to efficiently expand services as patient demand and healthcare needs evolve. To support the new facility, Saunders was also selected to complete an expansion of the existing Central Utility Plant (CUP), which included installation of a new chiller and infrastructure to accommodate a future chiller.

The completed tower provides physicians and care teams with leading-edge technology and modern treatment environments, enhancing the hospital’s ability to care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions while positioning the campus for future growth.

Construction Fun Facts:

• The total weight of all the concrete and rebar for the project will be over 13 tons. That’s the same weight as 42,220,000 human hearts!
• Crews will be using about 123 miles of rebar. That’s roughly the distance from the hospital to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
• There will be roughly 6400 cubic yards of concrete placed, which would fill two Olympic-sized swimming pools.
• There will be about 12,550 square feet of glass, which would cover nearly 3 NBA courts.
• There will be roughly 80,000 bricks on the new project. If laid end-to-end, they would stretch approximately 10 miles.
• The building foundation is supported by drilled piers. The total length of all the piers added together is nearly half a mile.

This project received the 2025 Silver ACE Award for Projects $750,000 to $2.5 Million from Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Colorado.
