Building a modern mountain operations hub to support reliable utility service and field operations....
Read More →Saunders was selected through a CM/GC negotiated process to construct a new vehicle storage facility for CDOT in Brush, Colorado, providing critical infrastructure to support fleet operations while meeting a fixed project budget and accelerated schedule.
The project consists of an 11-bay, 13,335-square-foot pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) designed to accommodate vehicle storage and maintenance activities. During preconstruction, Saunders worked closely with CDOT and the design team to align the project scope with the agency’s fixed-limit budget. The original concept called for a $7 million, 14-bay facility, but through collaborative redesign efforts, the team successfully modified the building to an 11-bay configuration that met the $6.2 million budget target without compromising operational functionality.
Recognizing the importance of schedule certainty, Saunders initiated early procurement of critical long-lead components and major trade packages. Early buyout efforts included the PEMB system, overhead crane, earthwork, and concrete scopes, allowing submittals and fabrication activities to begin well ahead of construction. The PEMB arrived onsite in November, and erection began shortly thereafter.
Through proactive planning, early procurement, and close coordination with project partners, the team positioned the project for substantial completion ahead of CDOT’s original schedule, delivering an essential operational facility while maximizing value for the owner.
