Thompson Valley High School Remodel
Modernizing a historic high school to enhance safety, learning, and student experience....
Read More →Dedicated to longtime Winter Park Councilmember and Mayor Jim Meyers, the Jim Meyers Public Works Facility was developed to provide the Town of Winter Park with a modern, efficient operations center capable of supporting both current needs and future growth. The project emerged from the Town’s 2017 Facilities Master Plan, which identified a new public works facility as a critical priority for maintaining and enhancing municipal services.
Following an evaluation of multiple potential sites, the Town determined that the most effective solution was to redevelop the existing public works campus along U.S. Highway 40. This approach allowed the Town to retain a familiar and strategically located operations center while significantly upgrading its functionality, efficiency, and capacity.
The project included demolition of the aging operations building and construction of a new facility positioned to maximize the use of the existing site. Saunders served as construction manager/general contractor and provided extensive preconstruction services to help align the project scope with the Town’s budget while maintaining key operational objectives.
Given the project’s mountain location, careful planning was essential. The preconstruction and operations teams worked closely together to develop construction strategies that accounted for the challenges of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain climate, helping minimize weather-related impacts and maintain schedule performance. Demolition of the existing facility was completed in October 2019, paving the way for construction of the new campus.
The completed facility includes approximately 21,000 square feet of administration, operations, and vehicle maintenance space, along with dedicated maintenance bays designed to support the Town’s fleet and public works activities. A separate storage building provides additional capacity for equipment, materials, and operational resources.
The result is a modern public works facility that enhances operational efficiency, supports essential municipal services, and provides the Town of Winter Park with a durable, long-term asset designed to serve the community for years to come.
The project received the 2021 APWA Colorado Awards for Small Structures from the American Public Works Association Colorado Chapter.
