Developed to address critical facility needs and extend the life of district assets, the program focused on enhancing safety, building performance, and the overall educational environment for students, staff, and the community.
Saunders was selected through a construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) delivery method, providing the district with a collaborative approach to planning, budgeting, and executing improvements across multiple campuses. Given the number of facilities involved and the importance of minimizing disruptions to educational activities, the work was strategically phased over two consecutive summer construction seasons.
The program encompassed a wide range of upgrades designed to improve both functionality and long-term sustainability. Site improvements included playground enhancements that created safer and more engaging outdoor environments for students. Building system upgrades featured HVAC improvements to enhance comfort and energy efficiency, as well as district-wide lighting retrofits that improved visibility while reducing operating costs.
Life-safety improvements were a significant component of the project, including the installation of new fire alarm systems and secure entry enhancements that strengthened campus security and improved visitor management. In addition, complete roof replacements were completed at multiple facilities, protecting district assets and extending the service life of the buildings for years to come.
Successfully executing renovations across numerous occupied educational facilities required extensive planning and coordination among district personnel, designers, trade partners, and school administrators. By carefully sequencing construction activities during summer breaks, the project team minimized impacts on students and staff while delivering substantial improvements across the district.
The result is a district-wide modernization program that enhances safety, improves building performance, and creates more functional learning environments, helping Weld RE-4 School District continue to support student success and serve its growing communities well into the future.
