CU Anschutz Gates Biomanufacturing Facility

Advancing life-saving therapies through a highly specialized biomanufacturing and cleanroom facility.

Located within the Bioscience 1 building on the Anschutz Medical Campus, the Charles C. Gates Biomanufacturing Facility was developed to support the production of advanced cellular and protein-based therapies. Designed to meet the rigorous requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing, the facility provides critical infrastructure for pilot-scale production and the manufacture of investigational drug products for Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical applications.

The approximately 12,850-square-foot third-floor build-out includes specialized spaces dedicated to current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) operations, enabling the production, processing, packaging, and handling of pharmaceutical products within a highly controlled environment. These capabilities support the advancement of innovative therapies from research and development into clinical testing.

A central feature of the project is its cleanroom environment, designed to meet stringent ISO standards and provide the controlled conditions required for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The facility’s specialized systems ensure precise control of air quality, temperature, humidity, and contamination prevention, supporting both product integrity and regulatory compliance.

To support these operations, the project included significant infrastructure enhancements, including new rooftop air handling units, exhaust systems, screening walls, cold room facilities, and associated building support systems. These upgrades were carefully integrated to meet the demanding performance requirements of advanced biomanufacturing processes.

The result is a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production facility that strengthens the Anschutz Medical Campus’s research and clinical capabilities while supporting the development of next-generation therapies that have the potential to improve patient outcomes around the world.
