Read More →The Denver Art Museum Administration Building is a 52,000-square-foot, three-level facility designed to support museum operations while reflecting the institution’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and stewardship. Housing approximately 150 employees, the building was designed to meet LEED Gold standards and provides a modern workplace environment tailored to the unique needs of a leading cultural institution.
A defining architectural feature of the building is its exposed ceiling design, which required extensive 3D coordination and modeling to ensure that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems remained visually organized and precisely aligned throughout the facility. This meticulous planning transformed typically concealed building systems into intentional design elements, contributing to the building’s contemporary aesthetic.
The first two floors are dedicated to administrative functions and feature open office areas, conference rooms, and employee support spaces. At the center of each floor is a collaborative hub known as the “Heart Beat Zone,” where conference rooms and break areas are organized into four distinct sections symbolizing the chambers of a human heart. These spaces encourage interaction, communication, and collaboration among staff.
The secure lower level houses art storage and high-density library storage areas designed to support the museum’s collection management needs. The art storage spaces required specialized environmental controls, including a dedicated HVAC system and humidity-controlled conditions that meet stringent preservation standards established by the American Alliance of Museums. These systems ensure the long-term protection and care of valuable collections and archival materials.
The result is a thoughtfully designed facility that balances administrative functionality, employee collaboration, sustainability, and museum-quality preservation, providing a lasting home for the Denver Art Museum’s operational and archival needs.
