Arvada High School Addition and Upgrades

Enhancing student life through modern learning environments and expanded athletic opportunities.

This 11,000-square-foot addition and renovation project transformed an active high school campus to better support modern learning, student collaboration, and extracurricular activities. Completed within an occupied educational environment, the project required extensive planning, sequencing, and budgeting efforts to maximize value while minimizing disruptions to students, faculty, and daily school operations.

A key focus of the project was creating learning environments that extend beyond the traditional classroom. New communal spaces were incorporated throughout the school to encourage collaboration, social interaction, and informal learning opportunities. These flexible areas provide students with places to gather, study, and engage with peers, supporting a more connected and interactive educational experience.

The project also expanded the school’s athletic facilities to meet growing student needs. A new 8,800-square-foot auxiliary gymnasium was constructed adjacent to the existing gymnasium, providing additional space for physical education programs, athletic practices, competitions, and community events. The expansion enhances scheduling flexibility and supports a wider range of activities throughout the school year.

To improve accessibility, a new elevator was added to provide convenient access to the gymnasium and related facilities. This enhancement helps ensure the campus better serves students, staff, and visitors of all abilities while supporting compliance with accessibility standards.

Because construction occurred on an occupied campus, communication and coordination were critical to the project’s success. The project team maintained consistent engagement with school administrators, staff, stakeholders, and trade partners to ensure construction activities were safely integrated into the school environment. Careful scheduling and proactive communication helped maintain campus security and minimize impacts on educational activities throughout the project.

The result is a modernized educational facility that enhances student collaboration, expands athletic opportunities, and creates a more functional and accessible environment for learning, engagement, and community use.
