Thompson Valley High School Remodel
Modernizing a historic high school to enhance safety, learning, and student experience....
Read More →Rodger Quist Middle School was developed to provide students in grades 6–8 with a modern, technology-rich learning environment designed to support academic achievement, collaboration, and long-term community growth. Located on a 21-acre site, the 132,000-square-foot facility was delivered seven months ahead of schedule, allowing the school to open in January 2020 rather than its originally planned August 2020 completion date.
Construction began in August 2018 while students temporarily attended classes at the newly completed Riverdale Ridge High School across the street. Through careful planning and execution, the project team maintained an aggressive schedule and successfully delivered the facility well ahead of expectations.
The two-story school includes state-of-the-art classrooms, administrative offices, a gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and athletic fields, creating a comprehensive educational environment that supports both academic and extracurricular activities. The design serves as a prototype for the district’s Stuart and Prairie View Middle Schools, establishing a model for future educational facilities within the community.
A strong emphasis was placed on sustainability, energy efficiency, and occupant well-being. Natural daylight reaches all teaching spaces and major circulation areas, enhancing the learning environment and reducing reliance on artificial lighting. Additional sustainable features include automated lighting controls and an on-site non-potable water system used for landscape irrigation.
The facility was also designed to support community use while maintaining building security. A flexible floor plan allows portions of the school to remain accessible after hours for events and activities without opening academic areas, improving operational efficiency and protecting instructional spaces.
The result is a high-performing educational facility that combines innovative learning environments, sustainable design strategies, and operational flexibility, providing students and staff with a modern campus built to support success for years to come.
