Transforming a historic landmark into a one-of-a-kind destination for craftsmanship, hospitality, and community....
Read More →The rehabilitation of the historic Carriage House transformed a long-vacant and deteriorating structure into a vibrant destination for dining, events, and community gatherings. As the final original building on the Stanley Hotel campus to undergo restoration, the project represents a significant milestone in preserving the history and character of one of Colorado’s most iconic properties.
Originally constructed in 1909, the Carriage House was one of four original structures built as part of F.O. Stanley’s vision for the hotel campus. The building initially served as storage for Stanley’s innovative steam-powered automobiles, supporting the transportation needs of guests during the early years of the resort. Over time, the structure evolved with changing uses, including a brief conversion into a motel during the 1950s.
Despite its historic significance, the building remained vacant for more than 25 years and experienced significant deterioration. The rehabilitation effort focused on preserving the structure’s historic character while adapting it to serve modern hospitality and event functions. Through careful restoration and adaptive reuse, the project retained the building’s unique architectural identity while introducing new life and purpose to the space.
The completed facility now functions as a multi-tenant destination featuring restaurant space and an event venue capable of accommodating up to 80 guests. The revitalized building provides an intimate setting for dining, private gatherings, and special events while contributing to the broader hospitality offerings of the Stanley Hotel campus.
By transforming an underutilized historic structure into an active and productive community asset, the project reinforces the Stanley Hotel’s commitment to historic preservation and campus revitalization. The result is a thoughtfully restored landmark that honors its past while serving a new generation of visitors, guests, and community members.
This project received the 2021 Silver ACE Award for Best Building Project Under $10 Million from Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Colorado
