The Academy at Mapleton Hill

The senior living complex in historic Mapleton Hill of Boulder, Colorado occupies 16-acres directly on the Rocky Mountain Foothills.

This new community offers independent and assisted living alongside various rehabilitative care and numerous amenities. With a history as a Sanitarium turned community hospital, the site will continue its legacy as a benefit to the health of society.  The new facility includes:

• aspects of its original development in the year 1895,
• 213,000-square-feet of living space, and
• social and recreation facilities including a therapy pool, library, game rooms, a salon, a theater, and communal dining area.

Saunders was responsible for installing a full electrical and gas infrastructure backbone to feed the current project and future cottages planned on the hillside, as well as, a full waterline loop with back up fire protection. The project also involved the development of 3rd Street expanding the neighborhood west.

Saunders was tasked with installing a storm infrastructure that will help protect the historic neighboring homes. A challenge they faced was a steep hillside that is tight to the foothills. Not only does it create site logistic constraints but they had to make sure silt from the site would not travel down the steep slope.

There are multiple structures onsite deemed historic. Saunders ensured they remained protected throughout the duration of the project.
