Parker Student Center modernized one of the Colorado School of Mines’ most heavily utilized campus facilities while maintaining continuous access for students, faculty, and staff. Encompassing 58,000 square feet and a complete roof replacement, the project transformed approximately two-thirds of the existing building into a more functional, welcoming, and student-focused environment.
Because the student center remained open and operational 24 hours a day throughout construction, the project was carefully divided into two phases. Extensive planning and coordination allowed renovations to proceed while minimizing disruptions to campus activities and maintaining uninterrupted access to critical student services.
Phase 1
Phase 1 focused on the renovation of two floors, creating a new dining and kitchen facility, updated study spaces, and a bookstore. These improvements enhanced the student experience by providing modern amenities that support both academic success and campus life.
Phase 2
Phase 2 transformed portions of the existing library and dining areas into new administrative and student-support spaces. The renovated areas now house offices for International Student Services, the Student Activities Department, and Graduate Studies, consolidating important campus resources in a convenient and accessible location.
A key component of the project’s success was the strong partnership developed among the project team, Colorado School of Mines Capital Planning, Facilities Management, and Building Management groups. Through proactive communication and collaborative problem-solving, the team successfully balanced construction activities with the needs of the active campus environment.
The result is a revitalized student center that enhances campus services, improves functionality, and strengthens the student experience while continuing to serve as a central hub for the Colorado School of Mines community.
