Colorado Department of Transportation – Brush Vehicle Storage Facility
Delivering a cost-effective maintenance facility through early collaboration and strategic preconstruction planning....
Read More →Saunders served as the construction manager/general contractor for a two-phase expansion and improvement project at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) KOA Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The project was designed to enhance the campus’s operational capabilities, support maintenance activities, and provide the infrastructure necessary to meet the department’s evolving transportation service needs.
Phase I focused on establishing essential operational facilities and site infrastructure. This phase included the construction of three pre-engineered metal buildings, a precast concrete automated truck wash facility, a secondary containment structure, and comprehensive site improvements. Together, these elements created the foundation for efficient fleet maintenance, vehicle operations, and campus functionality.
Phase II expanded the campus further through the construction of five additional buildings and the renovation of an existing one-story pre-engineered metal structure. The work added new operational capacity while modernizing existing facilities to better support CDOT’s workforce and maintenance activities. Construction began in April 2017 and was completed in March 2018.
Careful planning and phased execution allowed the project team to efficiently coordinate multiple building types, infrastructure components, and site improvements while maintaining the functionality of the active campus throughout construction.
The result is a modernized transportation operations campus that strengthens CDOT’s ability to support Colorado’s roadway network through enhanced facilities, improved operational efficiency, and expanded maintenance capabilities.
