Read More →The design of the Western City Campus reflects the community’s desire for a more sustainable and pedestrian-friendly environment. Through an extensive area planning process, it became clear that promoting alternative modes of transportation was a priority. Once a former medical office building, the WCC is being transformed into a municipal office to serve the local community. Designers of the four-story, 63,000-square-foot building addition utilized cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels and glulam framing to add substantial square footage to the existing office building and consolidate public services from several other buildings into one warm, biophilic community space totaling 117,000 square feet. The project also includes upgrades to an existing parking garage across the street.
The WCC is part of the Alpine-Balsam Implementation project to redevelop the former Boulder Community Health Hospital site, purchased by the City of Boulder in 2015. In addition to the WCC building, the site will also feature new affordable and market-rate homes, ew streets and paths, and a greenway for flood conveyance.
