Transforming a historic landmark into a one-of-a-kind destination for craftsmanship, hospitality, and community....
Read More →The redevelopment of the historic Windsor Mill transformed a beloved community landmark from near ruin into a vibrant destination for dining, entertainment, and community gathering. Following a devastating arson fire that left the structure heavily damaged, the project restored new life to one of Windsor’s most recognizable buildings while preserving its historic significance and contributing to the ongoing revitalization of downtown.
Originally constructed in 1899, the mill has long been an important part of Windsor’s history and identity. After the fire, the reconstruction effort was viewed as a pivotal catalyst project capable of sparking additional investment and development throughout the downtown district. Construction began in September 2018 with a vision of preserving the building’s legacy while adapting it to meet modern community needs.
The completed redevelopment reimagined the historic structure as a dynamic multi-tenant destination. The building now houses two restaurants, creating new dining opportunities and attracting visitors to the downtown area. An event venue located on the second floor provides flexible space for weddings, celebrations, meetings, and community functions, while a brewery with an outdoor patio and performance stage activates the site throughout the year.
The outdoor gathering spaces support concerts, festivals, and seasonal events, further strengthening the mill’s role as a community hub and entertainment destination. By combining hospitality, recreation, and event programming within a restored historic structure, the project creates an experience that honors the building’s past while ensuring its long-term relevance.
The result is a successful adaptive reuse project that preserves an important piece of Windsor’s history, strengthens the local economy, and serves as a cornerstone of downtown revitalization, demonstrating how historic preservation can drive community growth and renewal.
