In 2017, the Town of Winter Park completed a facilities master plan to determine current facility needs as well as needs to address the future growth of the Town.
Very quickly, it was determined that a new public works facility was a priority and a subsidiary public works facility plan was added to the master plan.
As part of that facility plan, several sites were evaluated but ultimately it was determined the best avenue was to retain and improve the existing public works campus located at 80500 U. S. Highway 40 in Winter Park. The plan entailed the demolition and scraping of the existing operations building and the building of a new structure strategically located onsite.
Saunders was selected as the construction manager/general contractor in March 2019 and performed extensive preconstruction efforts to get the project within the owner’s budget. The preconstruction team worked closely with our operations team to appropriately pre-plan the project around Colorado’s Rocky Mountain weather.
Demolition of the existing structure was complete in October 2019. The new facility consists of administration and vehicle maintenance areas and bays totaling around 21,000 square feet as well as a separate storage shed.
