Centennial, Colorado – February 2, 2016 – Saunders Construction, Inc., one of the top three general contractors in Colorado, is kicking off 2016 with a bang – or rather, building its own $9.5 million office headquarters along I-25 and Dry Creek in south metro Denver. The site will house Saunders’ new headquarters and is scheduled to break ground this spring with an expected completion date of early 2017.
Saunders Development, a newly formed extension of Saunders, is the developer for the company’s new headquarters. Saunders Development purchased the 6-acre site in the Inverness Business Park for $1.66 million. With Saunders taking up about half the site for its new digs — a roughly 40,000 square feet building — it will have plenty of capacity to add a second build-to-suit office available for lease to one company or a handful of businesses.
“Saunders is taking the lead in bringing a new kind of partnership philosophy to the competitive development and construction industries with the creation of Saunders Development,” said Greg Schmidt, President and CEO of Saunders. “The ability to underwrite and procure development opportunities means that Saunders can now provide a level of service to its long-standing and new clients that goes beyond construction services — a model for future growth.”
Trae Rigby, who was brought on in summer 2015 to serve as the company’s Vice President of Development, has launched Saunders’ new line of services by overseeing the development of the company’s new headquarters and custom-build out of the remaining space.
Saunders will be incorporating this new business model of tailored-to-fit opportunities in the Rocky Mountain Region. By offering development services, in addition to construction management, Saunders is now able to come alongside partners earlier in the process to bring greater efficiencies and expertise on more complex projects.
“We had a need to diversify our business portfolio to balance out our construction work with long-term development projects that provide greater stability,” said Rigby. “It is our hope to grow Saunders’ real estate holdings to create a more balanced business approach.”
