The STEAD School is a science-based, agriculture-focused, student-led and project-driven new charter high school (9-12) focused on solving global food, health, energy and environmental issues.
This 8.5-acre campus is located in the heart of the Reunion community in Commerce City, Colorado. The campus will be divided up into three phases of construction with the first phase of construction currently underway. The first phase of this project consists of a pre-engineered metal building that is just under 15,000 square feet and a parking lot area of 78,000 square feet. The building foundation system is being self-performed by the Saunders Concrete team and includes concrete grade beams, pad footings, and tie beams specifically designed for the pre-engineered metal building. This building will provide classroom and science laboratory environments, faculty office space and a full functioning kitchen and serving area. The overall building captures the western feel and is scheduled to open Fall 2021.
The project included extensive preconstruction services. The team worked hand-in-hand with the design team to develop target value design and value engineering strategies to ensure the project stayed within budget. The team used the design model to provide feedback on design evolution and impact on the budget. The team attended design charrettes with faculty and end-users to capture and facilitate their goals and needs for the project.
