Saunders completed the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Modernization project at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Colo.
Good Samaritan Medical Center, part of Intermountain Healthcare (formerly SCL Health), recognized the need for families to stay with their newborn child during their stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and made it their goal to expand the current NICU. Saunders completed the modernization of the NICU — now called The Baby Place — in March 2022, which entailed construction of a new space on what was then the roof of the second floor, adding approximately 8,600 square feet to house the new NICU on the third level of the hospital. Designed to offer babies and families more privacy during an undoubtably difficult time, the new space includes 12 private patient rooms, which all include a sleeper sofa, refrigerator and natural light, and two rooms designed to accommodate twin patients. The NICU space also includes two nurse stations, shared family lounge/kitchen and restrooms.
