Saunders' third project for Sheridan School District, the new grades 3-5 and 6-8 facility and the renovation of the existing middle school west wing to accommodate Early Childhood Learning is made possible by funding through the Colorado Department of Education, Building Excellent Schools Today (CDE, BEST) program.
The school is a partial two-story structure with Elementary and Middle School academic wings joined by a central core, housing common shared spaces. The students share common spaces such as the gymnasium, art rooms, cafeteria and more. Site work included parking, bus loop/lane, playground area and physical education/athletic field. The 102,000-square-foot facility achieved LEED Gold certification.
Students and teachers moved out of the former Fort Logan Elementary School, where maintenance has been a challenge for many years, and Sheridan Middle School was re-purposed as the new Early Childhood Center and administrative offices. The new school focuses on 21st Century Learning, providing a safe and inviting environment as well as lowering ongoing maintenance costs for the District.
